We caught the last episode on Netflix yesterday. If I could describe Midnight Mass in four words, it would be : tragic, profound, beautiful, and gruesome all at once. What makes it so memorable to me is that most of its characters arent evil but rather regular people with flaws living life and trying to do what they believe is right. Beyond the horror theme is a deeply humane story about faith, grief, redemption as well as acceptance. Rileys final scene on the boat, Hassan and Alis final prayer together with Erins closing monologue are among the most beautiful and poignant moments in the series in my humble opinion lingering long in my mind even after it ends.
Then there is also Bev for she is surely the embodiment of self righteousness, hypocrisy and a representation of what we are seeing in the world today. A modern day pharisee if you will.
All in all, I personally feel that this TV Series show will rock you regardless of your beliefs. I found myself reflecting deeply on the questions it raises and like Riley, I remember being terrified by the idea of eternity as a child. I guess that was what makes the series so powerful since it confronts some of the biggest questions about life, death, faith and what comes after. It is so profound it actually hurts. I genuinely think everyone should give it a watch!!
