Home Should Be Soft
When I’m already drained, even small things can feel humiliating and unfair.
After a long day of being professional, patient, and composed — after handling difficult people, unexpected stress, and quiet responsibilities — my energy runs thin. My defenses are down. I’m no longer in “performing” mode. I’m just trying to exist.
And in those moments, home is supposed to be soft.
Home is where I take off my armor.
Where I don’t have to explain myself.
Where I can eat the way I eat, sit the way I sit, breathe the way I breathe — without feeling watched or judged.
When I’m already exhausted, laughter at my expense doesn’t feel playful. It feels sharp. A joke doesn’t feel light. It feels heavy.
It’s not that I’m overly sensitive.
It’s that I’m already full.
Full of stress.
Full of restraint.
Full of everything I held together all day.
Sometimes what I need most isn’t advice, correction, or humor.
It’s gentleness.
Because the world is hard enough.
